Calvin @ Hope FRIDAY
SC Score – Calvin 2–1 Hope
Calvin (10-1-1, #14) just dropped an 8-0 on Alma and has been scoring at a ridiculous clip (around 4 goals per game earlier). Hope (7-1-3) is solid and has Seth Walters (recent Forward of the Month) who can change a game, but the Flying Dutch have been grinding through a stretch of draws. This is the MIAA rivalry, and Calvin’s attacking depth should prove too much on the road.
Calvin
10-1-1 overall, 2-0-0 MIAA | USC #14
Excellent start. High-powered offense (previously averaging ~4 goals per game) and a nine-game winning streak that includes an 8-0 Senior Day win over Alma and a 1-0 road win at Adrian. Entered the rankings in the Top 20 and have climbed. Defensively stingy with multiple shutouts. Preseason MIAA favorite; currently looking like one of the stronger sides in the conference.
Hope
7-1-3 overall, 0-0-2 MIAA
Solid but not dominant. Strong non-conference body of work with wins over quality opponents and a lengthy road stretch. Seth Walters (Forward of the Month) is a clear standout. Conference play has opened with two draws (Albion and Adrian). Capable of competing with anyone in the MIAA, but results have been more grinding than dominant so far.
Calvin’s climb into the Top 15 and their offensive numbers have been highlighted as one of the clearer “form is real” stories. Hope has been more “scrappy and finding ways” than dominant.
York (PA) @ Stevenson FRIDAY
SC Score – Stevenson 2–1 York
York has been uneven lately (losses to Neumann and Eastern). Stevenson just put up a 4-2 win at Alvernia and has been more consistent at home. MAC Freedom game with some playoff implications; edge to the Mustangs at home.
York (PA)
6-4-2 overall
Mixed results. Competitive in spots but has dropped recent conference games. Regional contender earlier in the year; currently looking more middle-of-the-pack in the MAC Freedom race.
Stevenson
6-3-2
Better form recently, including a 4-2 road win at Alvernia. More consistent at home and capable of putting up goals. In the mix in the MAC Freedom.
York has been a “receiving votes / regional note” side in earlier roundups. These mid-conference games often decide who stays in the conversation.
WashU @ Carnegie Mellon
SC Score – CMU 2–1 WashU
WashU (8-2-2) just got blanked 2-0 at home by Case. CMU recently handled Chicago 4-1. The Tartans at home in UAA play look like the sharper side right now.
WashU
8-2-2 overall, 1-1-0 UAA
Strong overall record but just suffered a 2-0 home loss to Case Western. Had been ranked earlier in the season. Still a quality side with depth, but the recent UAA result is a setback heading into the stretch run.
Carnegie Mellon
8-2-2 overall, 1-1-0 UAA
Impressive recent form. Just went on the road and beat #3 Chicago 4-1. Has results against ranked competition and looks like a dangerous UAA team. Defense and attack have both shown they can perform against top sides.
UAA results have been a recurring theme in the daily digests. WashU’s early ranking strength has cooled a bit; CMU has quietly put up results against ranked sides.
Chicago @ Case Western
SC Score – Case 2–0 Chicago
Chicago (#3) just lost 1-4 to CMU. Case (#7) is still undefeated (9-0-2) and just shut out WashU. Home field for the Spartans in a big UAA matchup.
Chicago
9-2 overall, 1-1-0 UAA | Was USC #3
Excellent early season that included multiple ranked wins and a climb into the Top 5. Just suffered a 1-4 home loss to Carnegie Mellon, which cools the ranking trajectory. Still a high-level team with strong non-conference results, but the recent UAA defeat is notable.
Case Western Reserve
9-0-2 overall, 1-0-1 UAA | USC #7
One of the cleanest records in the country. Undefeated with multiple shutouts. Just went on the road and beat WashU 2-0. Defense has been excellent (long stretches without conceding). Legitimate national contender and UAA title threat.
Case has been a steady Top 10 presence in the polls that have been tracked on the site. Chicago’s ranking is still high, but the recent result against CMU is the kind of data point the roundups flag.
Ohio Northern @ Otterbein
SC Score – Ohio Northern 3–1 Otterbein
ONU (8-3-3, 3-0 in OAC) just took a clean 1-0 over Baldwin Wallace. Otterbein has been solid but the Polar Bears have been the more consistent side in conference play so far.
Ohio Northern
8-3-3 overall, 3-0-0 OAC
Strong conference start. Just shut out Baldwin Wallace 1-0 to stay perfect in OAC play. Capable of grinding results and has shown it can compete with regional sides. In good position in the OAC race.
Otterbein
6-2-1 or better overall
Solid start with a strong home record. Competitive in the OAC. Not quite matching ONU’s conference form so far, but a legitimate contender that can make games difficult.
OAC notes in earlier digests have treated ONU as a side that can grind out results when it matters. These midweek/weekend conference games are the ones that separate the pack.
UW-Eau Claire @ UW-Whitewater
SC Score – Whitewater 1-0 Eau Claire
Whitewater has the better overall record (roughly 7-2-3). Eau Claire has been streaky (recent loss to La Crosse in the WIAC). Home edge for the Warhawks.
UW-Eau Claire
5-3-4 overall
Streaky. Has some good results but has also dropped games against stronger WIAC sides (including a recent loss to La Crosse). In the mix regionally but not currently one of the more consistent teams in the conference.
UW-Whitewater
7-2-3 overall
Better overall record than Eau Claire. More consistent results and a stronger home presence. Currently looking like the steadier of the two WIAC sides in this matchup.
WIAC form has shown up in the regional rankings updates. Whitewater has been the steadier side in the conference conversation.
St. Olaf @ Macalester
SC Score – St. Olaf 2–1 Macalester
St. Olaf is still the clear #1 (11-0). Macalester (around 4-3-4) has been competitive but dropped recent MIAC results. The Oles on the road against a side that hasn’t matched their level this year.
St. Olaf
12-0-1 overall, 5-0-0 MIAC | USC #1
The clear national favorite at the moment. Dominant start with multiple shutouts and a very low goals-against number. Extended MIAC regular-season unbeaten streak significantly. Just beat St. Scholastica 4-1 on Senior Day after trailing early. Still the team to beat nationally and in the MIAC.
Macalester
~4-3-4 overall, ~2-2-1 MIAC
Competitive but inconsistent. Has some quality moments and history against St. Olaf (beat them in the MIAC final last year), but recent MIAC results have been mixed. Not matching the Oles’ level this season.
St. Olaf has been the constant “they just keep winning” note across multiple daily roundups and SimpleCoach rankings. Macalester has the history (they beat Olaf in the MIAC final last year, 4-1), but the current form gap is large.
W&L @ Lynchburg
SC Score – Lynchburg 1–0 W&L
Both are highly ranked (W&L #6, Lynchburg #8). Lynchburg already beat W&L 1-0 in the season opener. The Hornets at home in the ODAC return match. Tight, low-scoring game.
Washington & Lee
9-1-1 overall, 3-0-1 ODAC | USC #6
Excellent season. High ranking and strong results. Recently came back from a multi-goal deficit (while down a man) to draw Batten 3-3. Lost the season opener to Lynchburg 1-0 but has otherwise been very good. Clear ODAC contender.
Lynchburg
9-1-2 overall, 3-0-1 ODAC | USC #8
Strong year. Beat W&L 1-0 in the opener and has continued to win (including a recent 3-1 at Eastern Mennonite). Ranked in the Top 10 and has quality results both in and out of conference. Home advantage in the rematch with W&L is notable.
These two have been linked in ODAC notes. Lynchburg’s early win and both teams’ ranking positions have been tracked as a key regional race.
SUNY Oneonta @ Buffalo State
SC Score – Oneonta 1–1 Buffalo State
Oneonta is 9-0-2 and rolling (recent 3-1 over Fredonia). Buffalo State is solid (7-3-2) but the Red Dragons have been one of the cleaner unbeaten stories.
SUNY Oneonta
9-0-2 overall, 3-0-1 SUNYAC
One of the better unbeaten stories. Recently beat Fredonia 3-1 to extend the streak. Receiving votes in recent polls. High-scoring and difficult to beat. Legitimate SUNYAC threat.
Buffalo State
7-3-2 overall, 2-1-1 SUNYAC
Solid, not spectacular. Just shut out Cobleskill 3-0. Capable of competing in the SUNYAC but facing a tougher test against the unbeaten Oneonta side.
Oneonta has been a “receiving votes / keep an eye on” side in the regional updates. Unbeaten stretches get called out in the digests.
Roger Williams @ Suffolk
SC Score – Roger Williams 2–0 Suffolk
RWU has been receiving votes and has the stronger historical edge in this CNE matchup. Suffolk is 7-3-3 and capable, but the Hawks have looked like the more complete side.
Roger Williams
9-1-3
Consistently in the conversation. Historical edge over Suffolk in recent meetings and generally the more complete side in CNE play. Capable of big results.
Suffolk
7-3-3 overall, 3-1-1 CNE
Competitive record with some quality wins (including a recent 2-1 over Western New England). Capable of making games difficult but has not matched Roger Williams’ consistency or ranking presence so far this season.
CNE games involving ranked/receiving-votes teams have been flagged in the weekly pool and roundups. RWU’s form has been one of the steadier Northeast stories.
Overall notes:
The slate has a few clear ranking/form edges (St. Olaf, Case, Calvin, Oneonta) and a couple of genuine coin-flips or home-team advantages (Lynchburg, Stevenson, Whitewater). The UAA and MIAA games feel like the highest-stakes ones for the national conversation.
St. Olaf and Case stand out as the cleanest national profiles. Calvin, Lynchburg, and W&L are all in strong positions in their conferences. Chicago and WashU have taken recent hits in UAA play. The MIAA (Calvin/Hope) and ODAC (W&L/Lynchburg) games look like the clearest “form vs. form” tests on the slate.
