Movers that matter: St. Olaf takes over No. 1. St. Lawrence’s jump from 24 to 6 is the week’s biggest national leap. Catholic climbs seven spots to No. 9. Middlebury jumps three to No. 3. Movers that matter: WashU stays No. 1 and remains unbeaten. W&L and Chicago both slide up a spot. Tufts drops from 2 to 5 after the 3-0-2 start. Colby is the climber just outside the Top 10 (21 → 13). UW–La Crosse (7-0-0) sits at 11. Also receiving votes: Hamilton, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Christopher Newport, Carnegie Mellon, CWRU, Batten, Middlebury.
NCAA statistical leaders through Monday still show Lawrence’s Grayson Ogren and Lakeland’s Dunia Wangu tied with 10 men’s goals, St. Olaf’s Emily Johnson with 12 women’s goals, and WashU women scoring 6.43 per game.
Men’s focus
Brevard 4, Covenant 1 (Sept. 22, Lookout Mountain, Ga.)
Live from USA South play: Guilherme Barcelos completed a hat trick in the 72nd minute and German Garcia added a late fourth. Barcelos opened in the 15th, Covenant leveled from the spot in the 32nd, then Brevard pulled away after the break. Official recap not yet posted as of late evening; updates ran through @BCTornados. Ithaca 5, Oswego 2 (played Sept. 20; recap published Sept. 21)
The Bombers (7-0-1) scored all five after halftime after trailing 22 seconds in. Josh Bourdoulous, Jack Carney, Gabriel Robinson (two, including a PK), and Colin Adams finished it. Ithaca hosts No. 10 Cortland on Wednesday at Butterfield.

Season-high four goals. Abby Henegar scored twice; Josie Bencic and Bella Crompton added one each. Scots move to 4-3-1 and visit Muskingum on Saturday.

Quieter. A short NESCAC thread (CentPA, a handful of replies) was the only clearly recent conversation. Rankings chatter will likely pick up now that Poll 2 is public.

Engagement stayed small — typical midweek DIII pattern — but the poll and the Brevard hat trick were the two things people actually posted.
From the archives: a SimpleCoach video worth an hour
Came across 2025 NCAA D3 Men’s Tournament Bracket on SimpleCoachTV (published Nov. 10, 2025 — well past the two-month mark). It is a clean walk through last November’s men’s bracket: who hosted, which conference champs were dangerous, and the first-weekend landmines. Good context while this year’s Poll 2 starts to look like a real hierarchy. Have not used this one in a prior digest.
One soccer story that is not DIII — and is still worth the click
UEFA Women’s Champions League opened tonight. Arsenal needed a 93rd-minute Mariona Caldentey penalty to beat HB Køge 1-0, and Manchester City came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Bayern Munich (Beth Mead and Carlotta Wamser). Ugly, late, and exactly the kind of European night that reminds you why set pieces and substitutions still decide tournaments.
