Opening week is underway. Most of the news below is from Tuesday, September 1 — the first full slate of regular-season results for a lot of programs on the attached list — plus a handful of Wednesday updates. D3soccer.com is in maintenance today, so recaps are pulled from athletics sites, conference feeds, and X. United Soccer Coaches has not yet posted an in-season DIII poll; the official national ranking remains the August 4 preseason Top 25.

Men’s soccer — results and recaps

The Red Devils opened with a second-half winner at Miller Memorial Field. Marymount put 5 of 14 shots on frame and made Dickinson work for it. Next up for Dickinson: Rowan on Friday at home.

Four different scorers, a clean attacking night at Paul McGinlay Field. Trinity looks every bit the preseason No. 2 before a West Coast trip to Claremont and Redlands this weekend.

- Trinity (TX) looks loaded. Highlight clips of the 4-1 win over TLU are the closest thing to a national conversation on the men’s side.
- Weather is already a character. Gustavus heat delay/postponement and a couple of Midwest postponements are the other recurring topic.
- CUNYAC midweek slate. Baruch at William Paterson, Hunter at NYU, and the rest of Wednesday’s city card got a conference-account push.
- Highlight aggregators. FullRoster posted a compilation of Tuesday men’s goals; d3photography posted St. Olaf–Wartburg women’s galleries.
No major controversy, no viral player clip, no ranking fight yet. That will come with Poll 1.
One non-D3 story worth your time
Lionel Messi has retired from Argentina duty. The Inter Miami forward called it “a decision that hurts my soul.” David Beckham’s line — that the legacy “will live forever” — is the cleanest summary of the last 20 years of international soccer. Whatever you think of MLS-era Messi, the international chapter is closed. For D3 fans who grew up watching him at World Cups, that is the soccer story of the week that has nothing to do with Salem or a NESCAC midweek.
Came across this and stayed for the whole thing
Fell down a SimpleCoachTV tab and landed on “SimpleCoach to Coach w/ Kyle Dezotell, Head Men’s Coach @TuftsAthletics” (May 21, 2026 — well outside the last two months).
It is a 53-minute conversation with the coach of the defending national champions / preseason No. 1. Dezotell talks about the standard inside that program without turning it into a victory-lap reel, and there is a useful stretch on what “one of the best seasons in Division III history” actually meant on the training ground. If you only watch one D3 coaching interview before the first NESCAC weekend, this is a good one.
