Women’s focus
George Fox — “Fox Ready for New Era.” First-year head coach Brooke Alteneder’s Bruins dropped their 2026 preview today. A 31-player roster (20 underclassmen), transfers from Willamette, Linfield, and Montana State, and a mandate to play “intentional soccer” after a hard 2025. NWC coaches have them toward the bottom of the preseason table; Alteneder is aiming higher. Official opener: Friday, Sept. 4 at Cal Lutheran, then Caltech, then NWC play vs. Willamette on Sept. 11. Exhibition win at Lane CC, 2-1, on Aug. 26. Next exhibition: Corban on Sunday.

Salisbury — 2026 women’s season preview. Kwame Lloyd (14th season) returns seven of last year’s top 10 minute-loggers and the top four point-getters, including All-C2C first-teamers Ava Wheeler and Brooke Spadin plus second-teamer Lauren Chesney. Eighteen-game slate opens Sept. 1 at Washington (Md.), then the Seahawk Classic vs. McDaniel and Randolph-Macon. Nine home dates at the Gerry DiBartolo complex.

Brevard — post-scrimmage notes. The Tornados posted a field interview with MK Smoak and Mikayla Rubin after a scrimmage with HFC at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brevard is the USA South women’s preseason favorite (80 points, eight of 10 first-place votes) as defending regular-season and tournament champion.
La Verne 5, Pacific Union 0. The Leopards opened the official slate Friday morning at Ortmayer Stadium and ran the NAIA visitor off the park. Next: Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, then a Northwest swing at Whitman and Puget Sound.
University of the Ozarks hosted Southwest Baptist in an exhibition Thursday at Wilson Athletic Complex (result not posted on the athletics site at press time). Official opener is Tuesday vs. Webster.
Men’s focus
USA South preseason poll. North Carolina Wesleyan is the coaches’ pick to win the league (47 points, five of eight first-place votes). The Bishops are defending tournament champions. Pfeiffer (regular-season champs a year ago) is second; Methodist third. NCWU opens at home Tuesday.

Dubuque listed an exhibition vs. UW-Platteville on Thursday night at Oyen Field; Wheaton (Ill.) is the official home opener Sept. 1.
UW-River Falls women hosted St. Olaf in a Thursday scrimmage at Ramer Stadium (no public score posted). Falcons open for real Tuesday at Gustavus.
ODAC and NCAC men’s polls ran yesterday and are not re-listed here.

Power-conference names on the list (Tufts, Trinity TX, St. Olaf, Emory, Dickinson, Chicago, Williams, Lynchburg, Messiah, WashU, Middlebury, MIT, Rowan, Cortland, etc.) did not publish new soccer recaps dated Aug. 28. Their calendars still point to Labor Day-week openers.

Men’s board (1522.0): Still quiet. Visible threads (“2026 Weekly D3 Soccer Pool,” “Rankings Aggregator”) show no dated movement in the last day. Preseason pool chatter is the only live hook, and even that is thin.
Women’s board (1523.0): No new threads in the last 24 hours. The “Preseason Conference Rankings” and “2026 Women’s Soccer Top 25” threads remain the most recently bumped items from earlier this week; older conference and coaching-carousel archives dominate the page. Dates on many threads still read 2024–25. Treat the board as a lurking archive more than a breaking-news feed right now.
X.com — themes in the last day
Division III soccer on X today is preview-and-poll season, not scoreboard season.
- New-coach / new-era posts. George Fox women’s preview circulated with the #d3soccer tag.
- Scrimmage tape. Brevard’s postgame interview was the only on-field clip that gained traction.
- Conference pecking order. USA South men’s poll (NC Wesleyan) joined yesterday’s ODAC/NCAC graphics.
- “Last preseason night” energy. Alma men, and similar countdown posts from mid-majors, are the emotional register.
- Recruiting hygiene. Generic “contact ≠ recruitment” carousels continue; little program-specific news.
Volume is low. That will change the first weekend of September.
Off the D3 trail (but worth your time)
Manchester City stayed perfect in the Premier League, beating Crystal Palace 4–1 on Friday. Erling Haaland scored twice; Rayan Cherki added a quickfire brace. Across the Channel, Bayern Munich opened the Bundesliga with a 5–1 dismantling of Stuttgart (Olise, Upamecano, Pavlovic, Díaz, plus an own goal). Completely different universe from a Tuesday night in Northfield or Medford — and a reminder of how the same sport looks when the budget has a few extra zeros.
Came across this and stayed for the whole thing
Scrolling the SimpleCoach archive this afternoon I landed on “SimpleCoach to Coach with Joe Bergin, Head Men’s Coach at Marietta College” (Nov. 17, 2025). Forty-five minutes, no ads mid-conversation, just a working DIII coach talking shop — roster construction at an OAC program, what “development” actually means when you don’t have athletic scholarships, and how a staff builds a week when half the roster has a lab at 8 a.m. It is well past the two-month mark and has not run in a prior daily post. If you have a commute left this weekend, put it on.
