Most DIII programs are still in preseason or on the edge of Week 0/Week 1. National coaches’ polls have not rolled to a first in-season ballot yet. What did drop today is a wave of conference polls, season previews, and recruiting notes as campuses come back to life.
United Soccer Coaches / NCAA DIII Top 10
NCAA.com does not yet have a 2026 in-season DIII NPI national list (those regional NPI tables typically populate after games accumulate). The current NCAA-recognized national ranking is the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll of August 4, 2026. Records below are final 2025 marks.

Talisman Red’s computer ratings, updated this morning (Aug. 27), still have Tufts No. 1, with Trinity (TX), Bowdoin, Lynchburg, and Emory rounding out the top five — a useful early-season check against the coaches’ ballot.

Men’s focus
Lynchburg commands the ODAC again. The Hornets collected 11 of 12 first-place votes and 121 points in the 2026 ODAC men’s preseason poll, posted Aug. 26 and circulated widely today. Washington and Lee is second (111), Hampden-Sydney third (101). Lynchburg has sat No. 1 in this poll every year since 2015 and returns five All-ODAC players, including midfielder Matthew Viscuso. Bridgewater’s Trey Widrick (11 goals, 28 points in 2025) is the headline returning scorer in the league.
ODAC release
DePauw narrowly claims the NCAC. Defending conference champion DePauw edged Denison 75-73 in the NCAC men’s preseason poll (Aug. 25), with seven first-place votes to Denison’s two. Kenyon, Wooster, and Ohio Wesleyan follow. DePauw went 12-3-5 / 5-0-3 in league play last fall and took the NCAA auto-bid.
NCAC release
Wooster: “last year wasn’t a fluke.” The Fighting Scots (11-2-6, first NCAC tournament trip since 2004) published their 2026 outlook today. A summer trip to Portugal is the chemistry piece; junior Connor Shea is the leading returning scorer. They open at home vs. Bethany on Sept. 1 on renovated Carl Dale Field, then host Denison to open NCAC play. Coaches have them fourth in the league poll.
Wooster outlook
Salisbury season preview. The Sea Gulls return their top three goal scorers and six of the top seven point-getters from a 9-6-5 season that included wins over Carnegie Mellon, Messiah, and Johns Hopkins. Captains Liam Pierce, Jack Schwarz, Tanner Calzado, and Martin Parrish lead a 12-senior group. Opener is the Chestertown rivalry vs. Washington (Md.), then the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament.
Salisbury preview
MSOE mic’d up. Milwaukee School of Engineering posted a practice “mic’d up” with junior Steven Thomas and head coach Rob Harrington.

Muhlenberg tees up the opener. The Mules dropped a season-preview video featuring senior co-captain Ivy Dias. They open Tuesday at Stockton.

- “Preseason Conference Rankings” (started by B Teamer) took a new reply today at 6:22 p.m. from Gregory Sager (3 replies, 106 views). That is the only clearly dated last-24-hour bump.
- “2026 Women’s Soccer Top 25” last moved Aug. 25 (7 replies) — just outside the 24-hour window but still the live rankings thread.

A scan of #d3soccer and related tags on Aug. 26–27 clustered around four things:
- Conference poll season — ODAC pushing Lynchburg No. 1; NCAC chatter from the DePauw/Denison photo finish.
- Season-preview dumps — Wooster, Salisbury, Muhlenberg, MSOE using X as the distribution layer for athletics-site features.
- Recruiting hygiene content — “contact ≠ recruitment” and “start with the player, not the division” posts tagging D1/D2/D3 in the same breath. Useful noise, not news.
- Roster graphics — D3 Data’s all-squads women’s graphic was the most-engaged data post of the window.
No viral highlight or controversy dominated the tag. Volume is still preseason-low; that will change the first weekend games land.
Off the D3 trail (but worth your time)
Georgia women’s soccer put 25,433 in Sanford Stadium on Aug. 20 for a 6-0 win over James Madison — an NCAA record for any college soccer match, men’s or women’s. Previous marks: 14,410 (1999 women’s final, UNC–Notre Dame) and 22,512 (1980 men’s, Saint Louis–SIUE). Tickets were free, kickoff was 98 degrees, and it landed on the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Olympic final in Athens. DIII will never see that number, but it is a reminder of what a campus can do when soccer borrows the football cathedral.
Came across this and stayed for the whole thing
Scrolling @SimpleCoachTV looking for something that wasn’t this week’s preseason tape, I landed on “SimpleCoach to Coach w/ Gregg Olson, Head Men’s Coach at Macalester” (Feb. 24, 2026 — well past the two-month mark). Olson has turned the Scots into a sustained MIAC/national program, and the hour-plus conversation is the kind of shop-talk DIII people actually use: how you keep a mid-major academic school in the national conversation without scholarships, what the MIAC grind does to a roster, and how club-side work (Minneapolis United) feeds the college side. Macalester sits 13th in the current men’s preseason poll. If you only watch one older SimpleCoach tape before kickoff weekend, make it this one.
