Mary Washington | 18-2-2 | UMW was a game away from the final four, losing to Washington College, 1-0. Loaded roster with 7 Juniors,9 Seniors and 10 Grad Students. If there is a year, this would have to be it, no? | 9 | UMW was a game away from the final four, losing to Washington College, 1-0
Chicago | 12-3-5 | Under second year head coach, Philip Kroft, this is a veteran team that were trying to find their groove. Expect the Maroons to compete or win the national championship. | 16 | 2022 National Champions never looked like that got into the groove, but remained a top contender all year.
CT College | 14-2-5 | The Camels under Reuben Burke were playing the best soccer in the NESCAC in 2023. They are hungry and I expect them to be even better. | 3 | Think they played the best soccer in the NESCAC. Just came up short against the cinderalla team of the post-season, Washington College
Amherst | 18-3-3 | Graduating big time player, Ada Okorogheye, goalkeeper Max Landa, but never count them out. They will just reload and be as competitive as ever. | 2 | As much as I am disappointed in their behavior, especially against Middlebury in the NCAA Tournament, they are deserving of the #2 spot.
Kenyon | 16-5 | With a year under his belt, I think Coach Travis Wall will have Kenyon ready for season. They have the talent and ambition to get to the national championship. | 18 | With new Head Coach, Travis Wall, the Lords… err, Owls, left off form last season. Need some more conisistency in big games, but definitely a national powerhouse.
Frank & Marsh | 14-3-3 | Think the Diplomats could have a banger 2024. Strong returning squad including 3rd team All-American and leading scorer Oscar Horwitz (19g, 2a) | 15 | As always with Dan Wagner’s men… lock and load every season.
Washington & Lee | 16-5-4 | The Generals should have another great year, but with Coach Mike Singleton now at Goucher, will wait to see how the squad responds to new coach, Lumumba Shabazz, formerly at Kalamazoo. | 8 | Semi-Finalist in this years NCAA Tournament. Seemed to start off slow, but picked up some good momentum and only got better as the season went on.
Montclair St | 19-3-1 | Montclair has the PoY and Division III leading scorer Amer Lucovic returning for his senior year. If they can repeat the goal production, Montclair should be able to repeat as the NJAC champs and go deep in the tournament. | 11 | The 2nd of two public schools that I thought could win it all. Player of the Year and NCAA Division III scorer
Colorado Col | 15-3-3 | Only graduate 3 players, so core team should return. Can the keep Head Coach Scott Palgutta keep the momentum going? | 13 | Monster season out in Colorado Springs. Losing in the Elite 8 to #18 Washington & Lee in PKs.
St Olaf | 21-3-2 | With Victor Gaulmin and Hakeem Morgan trying Division I in the their final year, St. Olaf has to find 26 goals to make up for the loss. | 1 | Deserving spot. Deserving National Title. Deserving all around.
Cortland St | 17-3-2 | Lost both Captains and couple of other key players to graduation. Expect them to bring in some transfer and be back at it in 2024. | 7 | One of two public schools I thought could be a national champion.
Ohio Northern | 15-6-2 | Beating Messiah in the 2023 tournament was not a fluke. If there is going to be a year for ONU, its 2024. Large veteran class that could lead the Polar Bears deep into the tournament. | 20 | Great victory against #18 Messiah in the NCAA Tournament. Managed a great season in spite of a ruthlessly difficult schedule.
N Central IL | 15-3-2 | Will have an experienced squad in 2024 with a strong senior class. Expect them to compete for the CCIW title. | 12 | Had North Central as high as third, and expected a great run in the tournament. Dropped in the first round against a strong #15 Wisconsin Eau Claire.
WI Eau Claire | 13-5-2 | How do you compete against 90 minutes of Hell? Fully expect them to match or better their 13-5-2 record from last year. | 14 | 90 Minutes of Hell all season long.
Middlebury | 15-2-4 | Loss of some serious leaders to graduation, including Captains Jordan Saint-Louis and Ben Powers. Don’t think this is a rebuilding year, but definitely some open questions. | 4 | Quite the season and could have made the final had they not come up against Amherst.
Calvin | 18-2-2 | Calvin loses Oliver Akintade and leading scorer, midfielder Chris Schau to graduation. Will be a bit of a transition year for veterean coach Ryan Souders. | 5 | At 18-2-2 was a shootout away from getting through Chicago, and had an outstanding season.
Tufts | 14-4-3 | Expect the Jumbos to make runs in the NESCAC and the Tournament. Mature roster. Will look for Daniel Yanez to really lead the team forward. | 6 | Another outstanding season, and National Championship contender.
Occidental | 15-4-3 | Think this team could be the surprise for 2024. Only lose 5 to graduation. Leading scrorers Andrew Notter (16g, 3a) and Oury Diane (8g, 6a) return for their senior year. | 21 | Great soccer out LA. Occidental, SCIAC Champions, got to the NCAA Sweet 16 before falling to #2 Amherst, 1-0, in a game that they could have carried.
Washington MD | 15-3-5 | Lose a lot of talent to graduation. Will have to see if Coach Roy Dunshee can have the Shoreman ready to compete in a stacked Centennial Conference. | 10 | Overlooked Washington for much of the season, but had a remarkable run, including making it to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament and losing to the eventual champions, #1 St. Olaf.
Johns Hopkins | 13-5-4 | Another team that is reloading with a veteran squad with a some additional D1 transfers. As reigning CC champs, they are still the team to beat. Time will tell if this senior/grad class is enough to get them to the further in the NCAA tournament. | 22 | Centennial Conference champions, Johns Hopkins had a great season. Got through Babson before losing to Middlebury.
Carleton MN | 16-3-1 | Lose a big senior class to graduation, but returning leading scorers juniors Ben Pennell (13g, 7a), Briggs Priem (7g,5a), and Owen Flanagan (5g, 4a) | 19 | Cinderella story of D3. Outstanding season. Lost to eventual champion St. Olaf in the second round to the NCAA Tournament.
Case Western | 10-3-4 | A stacked veteran team for 2024. They will be tough to score on and had a well balanced attack in 2023, but goal production will be the question mark going into this season. | 23 | UAA Sharpens iron. Case Western placed third in conference, but made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Falling eventually to #7 Cortland State in PKs.
Messiah | 20-1-1 | Lose PoY Matt MacDonald and defender Jake Lent-Koop, but have an outstanding roster and are looking to reload. May be the year of Josh Bratager as they will be looking to fill a leadership vacuum. | 17 | Still some of the best soccer being played in Division is in Mechanicsburg. Need to figure out a more dynamic attack then being reliant on a player like Matt McDonald.
Trinity TX | 12-4-2 | A senior heavy team, Trinity is another one who I think can make a deep run. Looking to Michael Meese to set the SCAC on fire. | 38 | Finish the season at 12-3-4. Lost in SCAC Tournament final on PKs, then lost to Occidental in the second round of the NCAAs.
SUNY Oneonta | 15-4-3 | SUNY Oneonta lose senior captain goalkeeper Nate Hanna, and all-region selections John Bernardi and Ian Zangaro to graduation, but have a very deep roster that could see them be a force to reckon with in 2024. | 24 | Great season in Oneonta, losing in the SUNYAC finals to #7 Cortland State, and falling to #9 Washington & Lee in the second round of the NCAAs
