In a Chaotic World, Some Good News

Always appreciate good news these days. And when there is a connection to D3 even better.

According to news reports earlier today –

The largest prisoner swap between Russia and the US since the cold war has taken place, as 16 people were freed from Russian custody including the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Several other foreign citizens held in Russia and numerous Russian political prisoners were also freed.

Turns out, Evan Gershkovich is a former Bowdoin soccer player with quite a history playing for the Polar Bears.

From November 20th, 2010 –

Bowdoin and Amherst played to a 1-1 deadlock through overtimes before the Polar Bears advanced with a 3-1 decision in kicks.

After both teams connected in the first round of the best-of-five shootout, Hicks blocked consecutive chances by Amherst’s T.J. Kelly and Ben Norton. In the bottom of the third round, Michael Gale slipped a shot past Amherst’s Lennard Kovacs to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 edge. Ian Rothkopf booted his kick high of the crossbar and Evan Gershkovich, who did not see action during the 110 minutes of play, coolly netted a chance inside the left post to win the shootout.

More importantly however, welcome back after your 16 month ordeal.
