Trinity @ Texas Lutheran

Game Notes

Quite the battle of Texas today.  Texas Lutheran, currently undefeatable at 9-0, taking on Trinity at 5-0-2.  This one is for some serious bragging points, and grab for the top SCAC spot.  Sounds like it is a good crown.  They mentioned its a Breast Cancer Awareness Game.  Got some horns.  Got some cheering.

Choppy to start.  Neither team has it going smoothly.  Lack of control.

Both teams are skillful though.  Each has players who can play the ball.  The camera angle is tough.  Real close in so hard to see the entire field.  The horns will drive me nuts.

Texas Lutheran a but better on the attack.  Getting closer to the 18 with intent.  Trinity is trying to slow the game and be more methodical in their approach.

Trinity settled into the game and has had the best of the looks so far.  Texas Lutheran is reacting too much.  Can’t seem to get through midfield.  After about 15 minutes, Trinity have certainly looked the better.  Most of the play happening in TLUs half.

Ok, serious question.  How many times does a long ball from a Center Back, actually make it to the winger who is running down the line.

8 left, still 0-0.  Trinity is closer to scoring than TLU.  But still a lot of soccer being played between the 18s.   TLU doesn’t seem to have many ideas to get forward.

But with 47 seconds left, TLU has a free kick about 30 outside the box.  The defender dragged the forward down when he was 1 on 1, and gets the straight red.  Trinity now playing with 10.  Hits a wonderful shot upper corner to make it Trinity 0; Texas Lutheran 1.  This is a surprise as I thought Trinity had the better of the play.

And with that, HALFTIME.

Trinity down a man and down a goal.  They have the talent to claw it back, but definitely a challenge.

Trinity back to trying to control the ball.  Just can’t make it work in the final third.  TLU being opportunistic when it wins the ball.  Trinity still trying though.  Space is starting to open up for TLU and Trinity is slowly dropping back deeper and deeper.  And TLU is knocking.

On occasion, TLU runs a counter and if it’s not for the feint of heart.  Trinity Keeper coming up big when necessary, keeping this in reach.  But TLU is knocking for the second.  9 minutes left.

And just like that, they get their second.  TLU plays a through ball and the forward takes a touch and passes it past the Trinity Keeper.  This one is done and dust.  8 minutes left.

Don’t see Trinity pulling this back, so with 8 minutes or so, I am done.
