Big matchup today between #7 Tufts paying a visit to #12 MIT.

Am sure both teams are thinking this is big match up before they jump into the conference, and more importantly solidify their position in the rarified air of the Top 25. A little nervy to start.

And within 5 minutes, Tufts makes a deposit in the bank. Corner kick awarded to Tufts. On the ensuing cross, MIT keeper comes out with authority and punches the ball away. Ball is out to the 18 where a Tufts player taps it over the MIT defender and with the ball coming down volleys the ball over the MIT keeper and under the cross bar for the go ahead goal.

Quite a remarkable goal. Skill was awesome. A real banger.

0-1 Tufts

And at the kickoff, MIT marches down and gets a shot off. Not a goal, but clearly MIT got the news that Tufts is serious. Both teams trying to get a handle on the ball. But still a little choppy. Expect it to be this way for the next 10 minutes or so.

MIT is really starting to press and push Tufts further back than they would like. They still look like they can break forward, but MIT is making it difficult on them. Tufts is organized and waiting on MIT to make mistakes because they are so intent of tying it up. MIT does need to move the ball around quicker if it wants to get around Tufts. Too much individual work that Tufts is able to manage with numbers back.

21 Minutes left.

Don't discount Tufts sneaking in another goal. They have had a couple of looks on the ball. But they do need to mind their defensive posture, MIT is become more dangerous as time wears on.

Pretty much locked in a battle of the midfield for most of the game. Some breakout moments for both teams but aside from the goal, neither team has found the right combination. The dead ball plays that lead to chaos in the box, are the most dangerous so far.

Tufts is surrendering the ball way to easily and MIT is taking advantage to get on the attack. A little bit sloppy.

MIT has had some success down the left wing. At least getting the ball whipped into the box, but nothing too dangerous. Any shots have been wide and over, or well defended.

5 minute left.

Looks like this one will get to halftime

0-1 Tufts

And it does. Tufts clearly has the upper hand and MIT is reacting to the scoreboard. Think they need to show some patience. More games to follow.
