EJay’s Weekly Men’s D3 Pool – Week Ten

Week Ten …. on a roll!

SC

Friday Games

Ejay’s View – JHU can clinch #1 seed with a win. Dickinson sits in 3rd but can drop to 5th with a loss or tie, depending on how other games play out.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  This is the kind of game that can make or break.  Dickinson has high hopes and stumbled against Swarthmore to a draw.  Not the sort of game they should have let go.  Another tie against F&M followed by a win at Ursinus, and there options leave them only to beat JHU away.  And JHU will not make it easy.  JHU will do what it does.  We shall see if the team that can score goal shows up, or the one that can’t.

Ejay’s View – Chicago is currently tied for 2nd in the UAA, but only 3 pts behind Emory.  Both teams are barely above .500, so you need to think the AQ is the only way into the tournament at this point.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  This is the season for one of these teams, neither of whom had a stellar campaign.  The golden ticket is at play.

Ejay’s View – Trine are 7-6-1 and play Hope midweek to determine the MIAA #1 seed.  Then on Friday they travel 3 hours to Bloomington to take on the 8-3-5 Indiana Hoosiers. They played last year and the Hoosiers prevailed 2-0.SimpleCoach Ramble – I’ll be wearing my Trine hat on Friday.  Love seeing this although have to believe this will be a rough one.

Saturday Games

Ejay’s View – Brandeis is the other team on 9 pts and tied for second.  They have the benefit of playing cellar dweller Case who have yet to win a conference game and have only 3 pts.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  Case is still a foe to reckon with.  Not the best of seasons for the Spartans, but they can still make life difficult for any opponent.  Brandeis is riding a two game losing streak.  If they are going to turn it around, this is the game to do it.  Case tied Chicago and Wash U this weekend.  Will be a big matchup for both.

Ejay’s View – Depending on mid-week games, this will likely determine the #1 seed as Babson is currently 3 pts up on USCGA.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  I am riding high on the Coast Guard.  Don’t think they are the most skillful of teams, but they will compete to the last.  Babson unconvincingly beat Springfield, then beat MIT.  They have the better team, but will they be able to deal with the USCGA constant pressure.

Ejay’s View – The #1 seed in the Little East Conference is on the line as conference co-leaders Rhode Island College (10-4-1) and Western Connecticut (13-4-2) face off in CT.  Someone will need the 3 points otherwise 3rd place UMass-Boston (8-1-5) can pick them off with a win vs. a sub .500 Eastern Connecticut.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  I did a Fields of Dreams from Western Connecticut once – https://studio.youtube.com/video/MBonSVq3NLo/edit .  Will also say, they lost one game a couple of years ago and didn’t get a bid.  Robbery if you ask me.  They can play.  Rhode Island College lost Connecticut and the Coast Guard, then beat Keene St.  The Wolves may be a bridge too far for them.

Ejay’s View – UMW can finish the regular season undefeated with another win against CNU. Earlier this season, CNU outshot Mary Washington 16-12, but gave up a PK seconds before HT to lose 1-0. Interestingly, depending on conference results this weekend, these teams could meet for the 3rd time this season next Saturday.

SimpleCoach Ramble – I am going to say this is Mary Washington’s to lose.   Don’t think this is about the record, but more about another necessary step on the way to the bigger prize.  This game would give CNU a huge boost of confidence going into the conference tournament.

Ejay’s View – Assuming they both take care of business mid-week (OWU vs. 4th place DePauw, Denison vs. 6th place Wooster), this game will be for the #1 seed as they’re currently tied 5-0-1 in conference.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  I am going to say this will carry all the more importance after the midweek games.  I think OWU will trip up against DePauw.  The game will be worth the price of admission.

Ejay’s View – Assuming Mount Union takes care of business midweek v. Marietta, a win against Capital will clinch the #1 seed. And since they haven’t lost to Capital in their last 5 meetings, you gotta think a win is in the cards.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  Go Raiders!

Ejay’s View – Both John Carroll and ONU can grab the #1 seed if Mount Union slip up in either of their last two games, with the consultation prize being #2 seed and first round bye if Mount Union takes care of business.

SimpleCoach Ramble –  I don’t think this game can get enough attention.  Most definitely one of the great matchup in all of D3.  They don’t like each other.  Since 1992, ONU has won 8 tournament titles, and JCU 11.  This is the cream of the crop.

Don’t forget since UAA doesn’t have a tournament, they still have two weekends of regular season matches
